Anti-Undead Undead & Undead Constructs

Post by virgil »

Are there any undead that hunt/eat/kill other undead? Ideally, we don't have named examples (like Azreal or Angel), but an actual category of undead.

Also, I have a character that's interested in combining animate dead with item creation as a way to obtain the special abilities of the original creature. Would there be a balanced manner in which to reduce the cost of a magic item if it also took up the HD allotment of the creator's animation pool, or at least grant the undead powers based on when it was alive?

Are we talking about the Dhampir or just D&D game stuff?

If there is D&D specific material, that would be great; though fiction works too due to options for conversion. While a good idea, would a Dhampir actually be considered the undead type (my primary goal)?

Dhampir may or may not, depending on which folklore you read.

I think you probably want to adapt some sort of a ghoul, since their whole schtick is eating corpses, and if those corpses being animate should just make it sporting.
